Jan Harvey's first career was teaching primary
school in the Central Okanagan School District. She found
herself instinctively using the power of music to enhance instruction
in all her subjects.
In 1982, the at-home mom began a career
in music education. She taught music for preschoolers at a downtown Kelowna
music store, and her first class was made up of six four
year olds. Jan's interest was piqued and she completed further training
at the University of British Columbia and
the Royal Conservatory of Music. Jan began to refine
and develop a unique program for three to seven year olds and her reputation
and register continued to grow.
The
program begins with the music basics and culminates with group keyboard
classes. Her
program and her loving, dynamic and positive style have ensured success
for thousands of children in future musical training.
Now with two hundred children enrolled in her programs
each year and a long waiting list, Jan is acknowledged to be the best
in her field. Jan
continues to learn and create new material on a sound theoretical basis.
Her goal is to motivate and develop the love of music in children.
Jan has three grown children and a variety of interests and hobbies
including winter sports, fitness, crafts, reading and hiking.
